Logitech Lap Attachment for Force Feedback Wheels Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Don’t pay any attention to the negative reviews. This item works as designed. Sure it’s not totally stable only because your legs can never be as solid as a table, but its good enough for a quick ride around the track. The center piece fits nicely between my legs and the side arms rest exactly on the top muscles of my upper legs giving it reasonable stability. I do NOT need to hold my legs together tightly. My only recommendation would be to wear pants that cover your legs so the plastic won’t irritate your skin.

Put it this way…on my first race with the lap attachment, I was able to win a very heated online race against 12 other drivers.

While not a perfect solution, this attachment is better than nothing especially if you don’t have a table nearby.

Logitech G25 Racing Wheel

Logitech G25 Racing Wheel Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Formula 1 2007 for PS3, even with its limited steering lock and 720p resolution, is a ton of fun with this wheel and the main reason I bought the G25. This is a very nice wheel and way better than the XBox 360 wheel (the G25 wheel shaft does not wobble), but unless you play PC games, SAVE YOUR MONEY because XBox 360 will not support the G25 and most PS3 game developers are ignoring the G25. The G25 has 900 degrees of steering lock, which is supported by only a handfull of PS3 games including: Codemaster’s “GRID” for PS3 and Gran Turismo HD (obsolete), Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (not mentioned in the manual, so I don’t know if it really works), Midnight Club Los Angeles (haven’t played it), Need for Speed: Undercover and Need for Speed: Shift. Many of the Electronic Arts games for PS3 also support the 6-speed shifter, and force feedback, but I don’t think that any of these games are rendered at a resolution higher than 720p while their counterparts on the XBox 360 are sporting 1080i and 1080p (apparently Sony has yet to grow a spine.) The force-feedback is VERY strong, but there’s no rumble effect and the 6-speed shifter is junk because it does not sense the position of the shifter knob (there is only a button at the far end of each of the 6 shifter positions) so you can put it into gear, but if you don’t hit the button at the back of the slot, the game doesn’t know that you shifted. Only one game I’ve tried so far (Need for Speed: Shift) actually makes use of the clutch pedal. There are many PS2 games that support the G25′s 900-degree and force feedback functions (according to the Logitech website), but I haven’t tried any of them. Perhaps Gran Turismo 5, if it’s ever released, will make full use of this wheel.

The multi-platform (PC, PS3, XBOX 360) Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S wheel is now in limited production and can force many games currently with limited steering lock into 540 or 900 degrees of steering lock. This means that like DIRT 2 will drive more like an off-road game and less like a Formula 1 game. If you’re like me, and already bought a G25 and/or the XBox 360 wheels, don’t dispair, you can always use them as spares when your buddies come over.

Logitech Playstation 3 Driving Force Wireless Force Feedback Wheel Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

This is my first driving wheel for games and got this on sale for on a local store. What drew me to it further was the wireless feature. I didn’t want wires in my living room so i figured this would work out perfectly and it did (there is still a wire for power though). It is simple and i can easily grab it and play with my PS3. I just wanted simple and that works with GT5 pro, RR7 and other demo driving games (Grid,NFS Prostreet etc.) I’m really happy with it and really didn’t mind having the accelerator and break controls on the paddle shifters. I was really surprised how comfortable it is having it resting on my lap and i can seat comfortably and play on my recliners. The force feedback is very good as well, gives you the feeling that you’re really driving in the game. Now i really enjoy playing with GT5 with cockpit view or just the head’s up display. For the price and convenience i give it 5 stars. I was originally thinking of getting the G25 but that would require me to invest more on racing seats, wheel stand etc..This is a lot better option than the PS3 game pad driving. But for the amount of time i play with my PS3 this wheel is good enough for me.

  • Force feedback technology – Feel every inch of the road for maximum control and the ultimate racing experience
  • Gas and brake pedals – Get precise throttles and brake response with true-to-life pedals

Logitech Playstation 3 Driving Force Wireless Force Feedback Wheel Overview

Wireless technology, force feedback, and one-piece simplicity provide an exciting, realistic racing experience for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2, with less clutter in the living room. The Logitech Driving Force Wireless is a one-piece, force feedback racing wheel. desk or table. Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 (Black/Silver)

Logitech Gaming Mouse G500 (Black/Silver) Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Pros:

-Smooth tracking, even on cloth(im looking at you sidewinder :\)
-Comfortable for claw and palm grips
-FAST scroll wheel
-Custom sensitivities, macros
-Rough textured surface provides great grip

Cons:

-Back/forward buttons not too comfortable. A generic button was placed right between the two which makes it awkward to use.
-Sensitivity controls have awkward placement. Can’t change sensitivity without changing position of entire hand.
-Scroll wheel not “clicky” enough.
-STRANGE HIGH PITCHED NOISE EMITTED FROM MOUSE. Some people can’t hear it, but i can. Similar to the mosquito ringtone. Annoying at times but not too loud.

Conclusion:

Small gripes aside, this is a great mouse. Not too expensive but provides the best tracking and comfort of any mouse I’ve used. Much better than the Sidewinder I am replacing.

Logitech PlayStation 3 Driving Force GT Racing Wheel Review

Well I got this wheel and it didn’t work as good as I wanted it with the ps2 I had to disable the vibration and it work better but it was perfect when I played Dirt 2
its a good wheel ok if you have a seat that vibrates or build one I build a seat using a nightstand and office chair if you removed the bottom off most office chairs they make great racing seats and I connected some thick gift wrapping tubes to use the vibration coming from the wheel (butt kickers) to the chair its also useful to have these tubes touch your legs or arms I find you can control the focefeed back and enviroment in the games munual so no need for wheel manual

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

This mouse is the ultimate in actual precision, and not just in the numbers. It’s smooth and can be weighted to your personal feel very easily and is very well constructed. I do however have problems with the DPI adjustment buttons and the s/s wheel. When moving the wheel side to side I often actuate either the left or right mouse button which can be disasterous in game. While the slight up curve on the l/r buttons is very comfortable, it is just too close to the wheel making it too easy to activate when using s/s wheel. Also when switching DPI I also activate the left mouse button quite often accidentally. This design is a bit annoying and I am trying to come up with a workaround, but perhaps I will actually do some machining on the mouse to modify the button areas I have mentioned, but probably not until it is much older since I paid a goodly sum for this and don’t want to ruin it so soon. I didn’t give the setup software good points either since I had some trouble with it though I believe spending more time with it will yield some great results. It can do so much it is just a bit overwhelming. The colored lights which change on the mouse itself to identify which mode you are in is truly great. And though I have quite large hands and at first found this mouse to be a little too small, I have adapted very well to it in just a few days gaming. Odd that it is so much better than my G5 that I used prior to this. But it is measureably smoother and more accurate even set to the identical DPI and weighting. Buy this mouse if you are serious about your gaming or just want a very comfortable mouse for anything. I also use this mouse for WaveLab and Solidworks and it is nothing less than perfect. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and I didn’t mention that the wire on this mouse does not interfere at all with the motion so no need to go wireless with all the inherent issues that can bring. (:-)}}}

Logitech Wheel Comparison

January 25th, 2010 anderson No comments

Racing Games have never been so exciting! The technology now exists to provide realistic racing environments through the use of steering wheels with forcefeedback, LCD screens with crystal clear display and speakers delivering the right acoustics (with bass!). And of course, the ring type of gaming seat, or gaming chair (I don’t call them cockpits, I’ll leave this to the flight-sim people!). We’ve been so impressed by GranTurismo, that we’ve been looking for things to improve the experience of the game.

We have been testing the best steering wheels on gaming seats such as the VisionRacer and Fanatec, and now we’d like to share our findings so you can get the same experience.

Driving Force Wireless

Before we had the GT and G25 in the labs, we had so much fun with the Driving Force! For us, this was one of the devices that really started a revolution in gaming…. bye bye controller pads and keyboard! We had two people on a couch (sofa!) and one playing on a bean bag.

The Driving Force is wireless, and although I’m not a big fan of wireless devices for precision gaming, the Driving Force works fine. More importantly, the feedback you get from the device covers bumps on the roads, car crashes and traction loss.

The controller can be used on the lap, which is pretty much where it was designed for – racing from the comfort of your armchair, although you can fix it to a table or desk. The Driving Force also comes with Pedals, which is something that is really the missing piece when playing racing games.

On the PS3, we tested GranTurismo and Burnout – I have to say, the playability was much better on the PS3 than the PC, but at the end of the day we were testing the Driving Force – and I don’t want this review to represent that the Driving Force was deficient in any area, it worked fine on all the games.

Summary…

The Driving Force is a fantastic product, it falls short of the G25 and GT – but its less than half the price, which more than justifies it’s position (specifically being on the lap). Recommendation – buy one, have fun,   sell on ebay – then buy an upgrade!

Driving Force GT

yummy. Thats my first words on this!

This is where force feedback really comes into itself, and with the full rotation it really does give you the feel of a real wheel.

The difference we found with this wheel compared to similar priced wheels is that the steering wheel has a rubber coating, as opposed to just cheap plastic. This really gives it a realistic feel. When you play GT or Need for Speed, you really want to hammer the wheel to get the best experience, and the Logitech is good to handle it.

We initially tried the DFGT on a table, as we were in the middle of rebuilding the VisionRacer, and we’d dismantled the Fanatec kit – and we found two things. Firstly, once you’ve played (sorry – experienced!) a racing game with a wheel – you can’t go back to a keyboard or joypad. Secondly, when you’ve been in a gaming seat – you can’t go back to a table…. its all good. Its also easy to see why the wheel is the official wheel of Gran Turismo.

The wheel has been around for sometime now, and we’re glad to say it’s aged well and still current. As this product replaced the Driving Force Pro, we wont be covering that Wheel.

Summary…

Fantastic Product. I’d say its the beta version of the G25.

Logitech G25

The G25 is the next model up from the Driving Force GT. The packaging is great on these products, although the reality is that its what’s inside that’s important. So when you know that the pedals are made of metal (and not plastic) it gives you some idea of what to expect in the product -something that’s solid and hard-wearing. This is good, but what about the playability and the experience?

What we liked to see is that the gearbox is also part of the ‘evolution’ of the game pad, and has been brought into the mix. Specifically, you get a D-Pad and the expected eight buttons, which is great when you need to change views on GT or program for another game.

The majority of people I know have previously preferred the automatic approach, although I’m knowing and seeing more people prefer the manual approach for the added realism, and the gearshift box supports 6 gears – one of which is reverse! Cool!

There’s a choice of gear shifting modes too, so you can have sequential if this is your preference for F1, or just stay with gated gears.

Apparently the steering wheel is made from hand stitched leather – I can’t confirm this other than saying the wheel looks and feels as if its come straight out of a steering wheel.

We never bothered connecting the G25 to a table – after you’ve experienced a gaming seat, there just isn’t any going back! The real value in these components is when they’re integrated with a gaming seat, 5.1 surround sound and a good LCD. Seriously, there is no going back!

In Summary…

Well, we discussed the need for feedback on the pedals for sometime, and only came to the conclusion that its nice to have and would improve the game, albeit marginally.

For realism the G25 is the way to go, although the Driving Force GT does exactly the same, albeit not quite as polished.

We’d go as far to say that the feedback electrics are quieter on the G25, rather than the DFGT – but hey, with 5.1 speakers rearing, who cares!
