Test Drive Unlimited Handling Characteristics

January 22nd, 2010 anderson No comments

For this I’m using a Logitech G25 with clutch and H-gate transmission being used. I remember watching some very early footage of the G25 in the Eden production offices, on several computers.

They REALLY did a great job optimizing this wheel for the game. It makes driving the cars such a wonderful experience when they are not out of control. you can feel the gradual weight shift to the front under braking, when your steering you can feel the tires scrubbing on the edge of tire adhesion, You can feel the rear corner wheel almost come off the ground or go very light(obviously depending on which way your turning).

For the most part the cars drive fantastically, It’s a bit of a mix between Simulation and Arcade-while its good, you could say this is it’s slight short coming. You can feel and drive the cars right to the edge of their grip limit-very confidently, thats what I like about them, because each car has very unique handling it’s great to learn each car’s characteristics. Once the cars slip past the grip limit, that’s usually it, you spin and crash. You go to counteract it one way and just as your about to straighten the wheel out towards the end of the slide, it flicks back the other way, very much like a violent pendulum.

In very light weight cars such as the TVR and Lotus’. This Can be quite annoying. You feel the effect most in all the small cars. With some of the heavier cars such as the Aston Martin Vanquish, this can still be a problem. While less pronounced, once the car is sideways that violent grab of the grip can still throw you off into a dramatic spin.
