Logitech Attack 3 Joystick Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Bought this for my son as part of his Christmas present and he was so excited. It works great, the only issue we had with it is the throttle control part was being temperamental but my 10 year old figured out why and hasn’t had a problem with it since. It is durable and has survived being dropped more than once. I love logitech products, we have several and they are a brand you can always seem to count on.

Playseats Classic Gaming Seat (Black Alcantara) Review

BRIEFLY

This is probably the least expensive seat to be used with a Logitech PlayStation 3 Driving Force GT Racing Wheel. I found it to be relatively easy to set up. While the seat is comfortable and both the wheel and the pedal base are well supported, there are issues having to do with the ergonomics, portability and the overall solidity of the assembly.

For someone like me, unwilling to pay a lot of their first gaming seat, this should be the preferred entry-level pick. More sophisticated users may find this seat somewhat lacking.

PACKAGING AND ASSEMBLY

This made in China seat came reasonably well packed. Removing the components for assembly was easy and nothing in the box was scratched, bent or damaged. Even though there is no ‘parts list’ per se, everything I needed for assembly was in the box with a few parts to spare.

Incredibly (but true) all assembly instructions fit on 2 8×4″ pages, with half of the space occupied by 16 mini illustrations. I felt a little intimidated at first but, it turns out, the instructions were clear enough to allow us to finish the setup in 30-40 minutes. Assembly consists of a one-time unfolding the sit by sliding a pair of locking pins and fastening a few screws and nuts. The entire assembly is held together with exactly 3 adjusting screws.

In the case of the Driving Force GT wheel, it can be attached with its own mounting clasps – just tighten the screws and you’re done. Other wheels may need the provided Velcro strips. The pedals will need the supplied Velcro and I am please to report that they stay firmly in place this way. The supplied plastic ties could help with cable management.

The seat comes with a one-year, vaguely expressed limited warranty. I doubt that the warranty is worth much so, if purchased from Amazon, I would return this immediately if anything looked broken or about to give.

OPERATION AND ERGONOMICS

The 3 adjusting screws will allow you to set the pedals and a comfortable distance and the wheel height. It is easy to lengthen the frame and then lock it into a position and the same is true for the wheel height. However, since there aren’t preset holes for length/height adjustment and the assembly is held in place by the tip of the screw pressing against the frame’s metal, I don’t know how many readjustments before the frame begins sliding back and forth. Time will tell.

When it comes to storage, it is possible to easily separate the assembly into 2 halves – the seat and the frame holding the wheel and pedals. You must be very careful when moving the frame because the adjusting screws are not strong enough to hold everything together on their own so… you will have to carry your seat’s frame very much you would do a baby.

One word about the pedals. I am used to have the gas and the break pedals slightly on the right because we use the right foot to press them. This seat has them exactly in the middle. It’s not a huge deal but allowing the gas and break pedals on the right would have added to the realism of whatever simulation we are playing.

As far as using the seat, once I got seated I find it to be quite comfortable even for a 6’2″ person (that would be me) and the kids found it comfortable too after they adjusted the distance of the pedals. The rather fragile assembly – thin aluminum tubes – while creating issues when it comes to ‘looks’ and transportation, surprisingly, are a good thing when the seat is used with a wheel and a game that support rumble. The vibrations travel all the way to the seat, making the driving experience a lot more enjoyable than driving with the wheel attached to a table or some other platform lacking seat connections.

MY EVALUATION

On this unit I liked the price – I understand that prices change so my statement may appear ridiculous in a week or in a month. I also liked the relative ease of assembly and, more importantly, the driving experience. Driving on this seat is FUN. My issues with the seat, as I stated already, are related to ergonomics (pedals placement) and durability. After a few weeks of use everything is okay so far. I will come back and update my review if something goes wrong or breaks.

I hesitate between 3 and 4 stars but, after some debate with myself and after talking with the kids who used the seat more than I did, I am leaning toward the 4-star rating meaning “I like it”. Because we do. If, knowing what I know, I had to decide now between buying this seat or spending more for a higher end offer, I’m not sure what I’d do other than carefully read the reviews for the higher end product first.

Logitech G13 Programmable Gameboard with LCD Display Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Have been looking for a replacement for my third (and last) Belkin N52. Belkin’s newer offering isn’t of interest.

Am not going to touch on each feature of the G13, but rather, just the features I like.

The Logitech G13 Game pad was out of the box, connected and installed in under 10 minutes. Working through the device configuration is an ongoing matter, done as needed. The only problem encountered is what to do with all the extra keys. The device itself is a solid desktop component. 6 traction pads on the bottom keep it from shifting or moving under hand. The Palm pad is simple in design, very comfortable and it works better for me than the contoured style palm rest. 22 keys on the main pad, two around the toggle and the toggle is also clickable downwards. The clear and easily read labels on the keys are difficult to see when gaming because of the angle presented at, but this hasn’t presented a problem. The Four main movement keys (WAS&D) contain minor divots allowing for swift re-orientation. The display panel offers; Stopwatch / Countdown; RSS News Feed; CPU & RAM Usage Monitors; Date and Time; A Power button. Additionally, though not employed in the games I play, the panel may be used to display in game equipment levels and other live game data from some games.

It’s looks, though not unpleasant, took time to grow on me. It’s now a combination of a great functioning device with good physical features draws me to conclude it exceeded initial expectations.

Support is from Logitech, a wealth of information on each of its products. The G13 being no exception. One picto-manual (no words) in 35+ languages on the G13. The G13 site pages were surprisingly easy to navigate.

For any not aware of the advantage a game pad offers: Each movement or action is performed using the same key regardless of game being played.

PRO: Not having to learn new key maps to effectively play new games.

CON: Having to spend time configuring the Game Pad to the Games Key Map.

ie – If you use the ‘G7′ key to cast the spell sending all opponents to the Corn Field in one game.
The same G7 key would be used to throw the real big bomb and blow all away, in another game.

Game profiles are managed through the G-series Key Profiler. Once the first profile is built, it can be used as a template for others. So once familiar with the game pad and configured to best support the personal style of play. The resulting profile can be used as the base template for other games. Having a pad set up properly allows the gamer to concentrate on the game play and not have to cross reference which key does what action.

Most telling comment I can pass along: If this one failed on me, I’d order a new one.

Logitech G19 Programmable Gaming Keyboard with Color Display

Logitech G19 Programmable Gaming Keyboard with Color Display Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

This is an awesome keyboard and I think all others have already done a good job point out it’s features and what it is capable of.

However one thing that should be mentioned that is with all keyboards there can be manufacturing issues, but Amazon can lay fears to rest.

My keyboard was shipped and many of the keys did not work. I had it on a Vista system, so I conneced it to my wife’s XP system to ensure it was not an OS or driver issue and it was not. But with Amazon one click, fill out an online form and a new one was on it’s way immediatly. When that one came there were no issues. I definitely praise Amazon’s hassle free replacements and returns.

It was unfortunate that the first keyboard had issues, but I do have several friends that have gotten this keyboard with no issues.
Maybe some will say I am too unforgiving to the fact that there was a manufacturing issue. But those things do happen and Logitech has a very good reputation and I will stand by them and with Amazon having my back when these things happen its all good.

I still rate this a 5 because of the features and ease of use.

I had the original G15 and unlike others I actually prefer the smaller footprint at teh expense of some of the G keys. Eighteen keys X 3 modes (54 macros) if the G15 is more than what most people need and the 12 X 3 modes is more than sufficuent for my needs as well as many others. also the fact you can change the back lihgt color based on mode is very helpful when switching modes very fast in a game. There is no guessing or accidentally thinking you are in a different mode for the macros.

Logitech G19 Programmable Gaming Keyboard with Color Display Feature

  • A color GamePanel LCD displays game stats, system information, VOIP communication data, video playback, image slideshows, and many other items, without leaving the game.
  • User-selectable character backlighting color lets you personalize the keyboard to better fit with the rest of your computer and gaming equipment.
  • Twelve programmable G-keys with three macros per key provide space to program 36 single keypresses or complex macros; use the MR key to record new macros on-the-fly.
  • Two high-speed, powered USB 2.0 ports give you the ability to transfer data to and from peripherals – like MP3 players and flash drives – while providing power to charge battery-powered devices.
  • Multi-key input allows you to use up to five keys at once to perform multiple complex actions.

Logitech G19 Programmable Gaming Keyboard with Color Display Overview

When you’re gearing up for battle, you never compromise. Not on your team, not on your weapons, and certainly not on your hardware. If you take your gameplay seriously, you want the Logitech G19 on your side.
