When GRID was released in 2008, it had some serious competion for PS3 owners looking at racers. At the time Gran Turismo 5: Prologue had just been released a month earlier. Xbox 360 owners weren’t as fortunate. Other than Forza 2 and Project Gotham Racing 4 there weren’t many other worthwile racers to play on the 360 then. GRID never got much media promotion and was seldom advertised.
After playing the demo on XBL and PSN incessantly I knew this game was packing some serious gameplay. The damage modeling in this game is amazing. Not only do crashes and scrapes look realistic, but they really alter your vehicles performance drastically depending on component damage such as suspension and engine hits. If you are too reckless you may not be able to finish the race because your car simply cannot drive a straight line or turn whatsoever. Damage modeling is not just some graphic gimmick like most other racers out there.
If you are accustomed to Gran Turismo sense of speed you likely won’t enjoy GRID as much as other players. GRID has a better sense of speed. The cars don’t feel like they are just floating down the track at 200+ MPH like they do in GT5.
In summation: I would recommend GRID to anyone looking for a fun racing simulator. There are still tons of people playing online to this day and with the add-on DLC like 8-Ball challenge and additional cars like the new Nissan GT-R R35 you can’t really ask for much more except for maybe a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 add-on.

Cannot stress how amazing this board is. Its price is a little steep, but that comes from the fact that it has its OWN onboard computer to run the LCD, so that using the screen takes no processing power away from your gaming. Let’s hit up the pros and cons:
Pros:
-Color LCD that runs a variety of programs
-12 Programmable macros keys with an easy-to-use programming software
-Onboard media controls
-Only uses 1 USB port on the back of the computer
-2 powered USB ports for headphones/gamepads/mice
-3 storage slots for different profiles
-”Game” switch which disables windows key
-Otherwise, fully functional keyboard with good, rapid response from keys (a must in gaming)

Cons:
-Expensive
-Requires its own power outlet
-BIG: The screen makes sure this keyboard will be taking up a lot of real estate.
-Limited programs available for LCD screen, making it more of a novelty now than a tool.

Ladies and gentlemen, this board was designed to really support one game. World of Warcraft. Its as if Logitech sat down and made a keyboard that caters just for WoW players. The screen has incredible support for the game (it displays the mini-map), the programmable functions are nice for spell casting and abilities, and you can watch YouTube videos during the griffon rides around the world (the screen has an integral YouTube watcher, though you can’t search for videos. You have to choose from preset playlists). The WoW demo is even included on the driver disk.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t play WoW and love this thing to death for all my other gaming needs. However, if you are a WoW player, buy this thing NOW. Otherwise, if you’re just an FPS player and don’t need the coolest-looking gear in the world, settle for the much cheaper G15.

Logitech MOMO Force Feedback Racing Wheel Review

The Logitech Momo Racing Wheel is a very high quality item behind a very low price point. As a sim racer myself, and a relatively new one at that, i found myself looking for the perfect wheel for my budget a few months back. We only have a few options in the 50 to 150 dollar price range. I found the Momo right away and knowing that logitech is a very reputable brand, i ran with it. The full range of options this wheel gives is simplistic yet fitting. So lets go into specifics.

Functionality – 9/10

This wheel has 270 degrees of rotation, 6 face buttons, paddle shifters, moveable sequential shifter, and a pedal board with throttle and brake. First off the 270 degrees of rotation is a turn off to many sim racers. The simple fact is that for under 250 bucks your not going to do any better. It functions just fine in every sim ive raced (which is most all of them). The buttons can be programmed to your liking and have a nice solid clicky feel. Paddle shifters are easy to reach with bear hands like mine. I can see them being an issue for someone with smaller hands. The sequential shifter can be placed left of right and has a solid clicky feel to it. I dont find myself using it too often for its placement is far too close to the wheel. The Pedals are very basic and my least favorite part of this product. They do offer a slip resistence for both carpet (with spike board that pops in and out) and solid floors with rubber feet. All in all the Wheel functions just fine.

Force Feedback – 9/10

Force feedback on this wheel is nothing short of incredible. It is fully custimizable and gives the user complete control of feel.

Software – 7/10

The software is very simplistic and not very impressive. Truth Be told though i have not seen any better really.

Overall 9/10

This wheel comes ready to use and is fully custimizable to the user. If your turned off by the lack of H pattern shifters or a clutch then look toward the 300 dollar price range for a Fanatec or a G25. Its very sturdy for a plastic controller and has a comfortable feel. Perfect for the beginner or the budget minded pro to hit the track and start racing.

The Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel for the PS3 works wonderfully with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue but you’ve got to find a way to anchor it if you really want to enjoy your racing. I had mine clamped to a B&D Workmate to get me by for awhile. I then looked at the expensive racing seat setups but didn’t want to spend that kind of money and didn’t want to have the seat sitting in my living room. Finally I saw the Xlerator wheel stand and thought it would fit the bill. I was not disappointed. I’m amazed how comfortable it is to sit on my couch and drive. The wheel is completely stable and the pedals are at a comfortable angle (adjustable for 3 slightly different heights/angles). Depending on how you place the stand on the chair/couch, you can control the distance of the reach to the wheel, as well as by 3 length adjustments on the arm of the stand. It’s a simple design that does exactly what you want it to do, it is built well and should last longer than my PS3, it stores in a corner with little effort and its price is very reasonable. The people who designed and built this stand are to be commended. It’s a perfect example of form following function. Unless you absolutely need to sit in a racing seat for the sake of role playing, get this stand. You will not be disappointed.

This is the first Racing Sim I have found and have stuck with over the past year or so, Its pretty good however you need to download a majority of the content on your own.

Tracks and Cars are mainly User created and usually are free to download while some specific and more wanted downloads require another game such as GTL because the modders ripped the cars/tracks from the game and require that you actually own the product for you to install.

The menu’s for online play are quite confusing and unless you join a league your most likely to never find people that race your favorite cars around your favorite tracks.

Open wheeled cars seem to be the preferred car to race Online.

AI isn’t the greatest, either they are too aggressive and spin you out, they are too slow or they just get in your way and cause you to crash. Playing Online can be the same way if you race in public servers, most of the time you’ll end up getting a few people that purposely crash but there are quite a few people that actually want to race.

Other than that and a few minor issues.

As one of the reviewers pointed out, if you liked GTR2, you will surely like GTR Evolution. I have not played Race 07, however compared to GTR2, this title expands on the awesome pedigree of the series by providing the user with a different selection of cars, tracks as well as some graphics and AI upgrades. All the great physics and realism are there and this game is such a delight to play with Logitech G25 wheel. I have played all the new titles that came out in the past few years such Dirt 1 and 2, GRID, NFS Shift, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and I keep coming back to GTR2 and GTR Evolution because the depth and realism of these games remain unmatched. If you are passionate about cars and racing sims, then there are no better games than GTR Evolution and GTR2 for you to play.

Features

In-Game File Sharing
It will be possible to share files, to up- and download setups while being in the game. The same will be possible for the ghost-files for time trial sessions. You can up- and download ghost files in-game, which can also include the setup that was used to make the ghost.

Online Leader-boards and Ranking
Online leader-boards and ranking will be available for all the new tracks and classes, both on the website and in-game.

Race-Line
In Time-Trial a feature is added called the Race-Line. This raceline is inspired by the race-line in GTR2, but features much more options. There are distinctive brake-markers to indicate braking points, and you can not load just one but even two race-lines to compare and follow. These race-lines including their ghost-files and setups can be up- or downloaded in-game as well.

Replay Studio
The Replay system is now equipped with the possibility to not only save the full replay after the race but also the instant replays that can be viewed during the race.

Nationality Indicator
The player-profile will now be equipped with a flag and a country indicator, which will follow the player throughout the game. This will also allow for country specific rankings and other country specific options.

Don’t pay any attention to the negative reviews. This item works as designed. Sure it’s not totally stable only because your legs can never be as solid as a table, but its good enough for a quick ride around the track. The center piece fits nicely between my legs and the side arms rest exactly on the top muscles of my upper legs giving it reasonable stability. I do NOT need to hold my legs together tightly. My only recommendation would be to wear pants that cover your legs so the plastic won’t irritate your skin.

Put it this way…on my first race with the lap attachment, I was able to win a very heated online race against 12 other drivers.

While not a perfect solution, this attachment is better than nothing especially if you don’t have a table nearby.
