Logitech PlayStation 3 Driving Force GT Racing Wheel Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Well I got this wheel and it didn’t work as good as I wanted it with the ps2 I had to disable the vibration and it work better but it was perfect when I played Dirt 2
its a good wheel ok if you have a seat that vibrates or build one I build a seat using a nightstand and office chair if you removed the bottom off most office chairs they make great racing seats and I connected some thick gift wrapping tubes to use the vibration coming from the wheel (butt kickers) to the chair its also useful to have these tubes touch your legs or arms I find you can control the focefeed back and enviroment in the games munual so no need for wheel manual

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

This mouse is the ultimate in actual precision, and not just in the numbers. It’s smooth and can be weighted to your personal feel very easily and is very well constructed. I do however have problems with the DPI adjustment buttons and the s/s wheel. When moving the wheel side to side I often actuate either the left or right mouse button which can be disasterous in game. While the slight up curve on the l/r buttons is very comfortable, it is just too close to the wheel making it too easy to activate when using s/s wheel. Also when switching DPI I also activate the left mouse button quite often accidentally. This design is a bit annoying and I am trying to come up with a workaround, but perhaps I will actually do some machining on the mouse to modify the button areas I have mentioned, but probably not until it is much older since I paid a goodly sum for this and don’t want to ruin it so soon. I didn’t give the setup software good points either since I had some trouble with it though I believe spending more time with it will yield some great results. It can do so much it is just a bit overwhelming. The colored lights which change on the mouse itself to identify which mode you are in is truly great. And though I have quite large hands and at first found this mouse to be a little too small, I have adapted very well to it in just a few days gaming. Odd that it is so much better than my G5 that I used prior to this. But it is measureably smoother and more accurate even set to the identical DPI and weighting. Buy this mouse if you are serious about your gaming or just want a very comfortable mouse for anything. I also use this mouse for WaveLab and Solidworks and it is nothing less than perfect. You won’t be disappointed. Oh and I didn’t mention that the wire on this mouse does not interfere at all with the motion so no need to go wireless with all the inherent issues that can bring. (:-)}}}

Playseats Limited Edition Forza 3 Evolution Racing Seat

Playseats Limited Edition Forza 3 Evolution Racing Seat Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

I compared this racing seat to virtually every other competing product in the market. By leaving no stone unturned I feel I was prepared for the few “downsides” to this product, and as a result I feel really good about this purchase. Let me go into a few more specifics, and keep in mind most of these comments universally apply to any of the Playseats Evolution seats.

Strong points:
- The unit was in perfect condition, well packed, and no blemishes or defects of any kind.
- It looks spectacular. Particularly mated to a g25 wheel, the black and red accents mirrors the black and red of the g25 wheel and it honestly looks like a single kit. Really sporty and eye catching together. I love the black frame. For what it is, it looks pretty hot.
- Incredibly light. If you have carpet it can easily be slid in and out of the room. It would be difficult to lift it alone, but I can slide mine into the viewing room and then out into a storage room in seconds. When you remove the “setup” time, the entire product becomes more valuable and it is this portability that won me over in selecting this over competing products. The kicker is it looks so good I doubt I will move it unless we have formal gatherings.
- It just feels like it was made for the logitech wheels. The included bolts, hole patterns, size of each attachment point…it just goes together so seamlessly.
- Solid. I had concerns regarding wobble in the videos I watched while researching this product. With the logitech wheel I find the unit extremely solid in racing conditions. Keep in mind there is some metal flex and movement. This is one of the tradeoffs for a unit that you can actually move and I was prepared for this. Push hard on the pedals and you can feel the pedal base flex. This is not really a problem as there is no sliding of the pedals/wheel, just a little flexing of the metal that does not impair performance in any way. To get more stability you would be adding weight, and I tend to think Playseats achieved just the right balance. Again, nothing in the unit wiggles, there is just a tiny amount of flexing under forceful use.
- Comfort is fine. Would I choose to sit in this to watch a movie? No, probably not. On the other hand it is conforms well to body shape and is perfectly comfortable for such a light weight seat. The quality of materials is top notch and I noticed no uncomfortable contact points. Again, a great balance between adequate comfort, “racing feel”, and light weight.

The negatives are few. I had heard the support bar in the middle is a problem, and this was my biggest concern. It was totally unfounded. I brake and accelerate with my right foot, and use the clutch with my left foot…just as I do in a real car…and I have never bumped the support bar. I actually enjoy the support bar as I have started to intentionally use it as a guide for where my leg placement should be. The ONLY way I can see the bar becoming an issue is if you wanted to brake with your left foot and use your right for the gas. Otherwise the bar adds to the stability and disappears during the game, just as it should.

The one big con is the adjustment method. The infinite adjustments are wonderful. The problem is every time you tighten the adjustment screws you completely gouge the paint. They should really adopt a clamping system and do a better job of lubricating the joints where it slides. Accept that the bottom bar is going to get scratched up and you will be fine. Functionally it is just fine, and the adjustments are great.

At the end of the day the seat not only met my expectations, it actually surpassed them. The unit looks outstanding and it performs flawlessly with the g25/logitech wheels. Playseats really struck the right balance in this product. It could perform with equal success as a permanent racing cockpit, or as an accessory you slide out of the way when not in use.

Other notes:
- The optional gearshift accessory is great. I find it to be the perfect height despite comments that it is a little low, so that may vary depending on user. It is rock solid.
- I have not tried the microsoft wheel or Forza3. It just looks so great with the black frame and red accents that I havent brought myself to remove the g25. Sorry I can’t comment on the pairing of that product yet.

Playseats Evolution Gaming Seat (Black with Silver) Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

This seat is AMAZING! After reading all of the reviews on here, trying to decide on which seat I wanted (this one, the classic, or competitor seats). I ordered the Playseats Evolution based on reviews, setup, and price. I took advantage of the FREE 2-day shipping through Amazon Prime, and with a total weight of 55 lbs., I got a sweet deal! Setup takes about 30-minutes, but the seat and frame are solid. This is steel, not flimsy aluminum or tin, steel!

Some reviewers have commented about the adjustment knobs that allow you to adjust the length of the seat from the steering columns and pedals causing scratching and scoring of the paint, and it’s true. But this doesn’t have any effect on anything other than some slight cosmetic blemishing in an area you can’t really see anyway. For me, it’s not even an issue.

I attached the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel to this, using the Velcro to hold the pedals in place, and it makes the gaming experience AMAZING! The combined force feedback of the Driving Force GT wheel with the comfort of the chair makes you really feel like you’re in the game (my 78″ screen with HD projector helps a bit here too). I’ve used this combo on the PS3 for Nascar ’09, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, and Formula 1 Championship Edition.

A little hint: If you are going to need to adjust the setting for different users (like your kids) use velco-type cable ties to secure the cables from your wheel and pedals to the columns to allow you to move things around. Tying the cables down cleans up the layout and keeps you from getting tangled-up.

Vision Racer – The Ultimate Gaming Experience

January 28th, 2010 anderson No comments

We tested the VisionRacer Gaming Seats (VR3′s) we bought head-to-head in our Demonstration Centre over the past 2 months so we can give an honest review of the system and experience, and we had a hard time keeping the staff off them! This ‘gaming revolution’ isn’t just another gaming chair, or gaming rocker – its the high end of gaming systems for the ultimate experience, combining playability and realism. This is a steep change from the focus on graphics, to experience.

To really test the system, we installed the Logitech G25 steering wheel which delivers the ultimate in force feedback, and if you combine that with a good set of speakers to deliver the bass, then you have the ultimate machine. As far a price goes, the VR3 list price is expensive – but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Gaming Rockers are fantastic, and a great laugh at the same time – but VisionRacer has the edge. We installed a Samsung 24″ with HDMI – and the screen and visuals matched well with the steering wheel and Logitech speakers. You can go for cheaper screens and speakers, although if you are investing in the VR3 Rig – the price increase is nominal. To get the most out of the system don’t for less than a 24″ LCD Screen and some reasonably priced speakers to get the desired effect – otherwise you’ll be devaluing the investment. It’s times like this where professional consultancy and installation has to be considered to get the most out of the system.

We also found that after several hours playing (seriously we couldn’t get off it), that we weren’t in discomfort. The VisionRacer is sturdy and comfortable, whilst realistic at the same time. Its obvious a lot of effort has gone into the design phase here, providing a solid ergonomically correct chair.

Overall, the car seat combined with gear shift control and force feed back gave this gaming seat the thumbs up by everyone who tested it.

The VisionRacer is currently under testing in a 3 Screen PC configuration running the G25 steering wheel (which is PC & PS3 Compatible). The steering wheel compatibility is important because hardware on the PC can be upgraded more easily than that of PS3′s – although its your choice at the end of the day.

If you have young children, you’ll need a couple of cushions to shift them forward, though in all honesty, this isn’t a game for young children at this expense, its a serious investment for the die hard gamers.

In summary, the VR3 is best of breed as far as gaming seats go. The VisionRacer will do the Racing Game industry, what the Wii did to Console Games…its all good.

GTR 2: Realism Redefined Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

I purchased this game long ago after playing a demo for GTR1. I didn’t even have the computer to fully enjoy it. So, I built a rig and sim-pit just for this game.

To sum up what could eventually be a verbose review, GTR2 delivers where it matters most – racing realism. That’s not to say I have experience racing in race cars, but the immersion you get from the features GTR2 includes were outstanding for it’s time. It is now rather dated, while further iterations and more racing sims have been developed with more detail and variety. It would be nice to see Simbin pair up with Polyphony Digital to produce a truly immersible experience.

With exception to graphics, this game has become the standard for a racing simulator. Many hardcore sim-racers such as myself might think graphics represent a small factor in a racing simulator. However, more detail and realism in the visual aspects draw you into feeling like you are there.

This is the best place to start for getting into racing simulation!

GTR 2: Realism Redefined Feature

  • Realism Redefined.
  • Team-specific c original cockpit design
  • Sounds sampled from real race cars
  • Tracks built from actual GPS and CAD data
  • Car physics based on real race car telemetry data

GTR 2: Realism Redefined Overview

The World’s Most Realistic Racing Simulation. Just Switched Into High Gear! Gear up and hit the open road as you take on the world’s most realistic racing simulation. Featuring over 140 exquisitely detailed cars and 34 unique track-layouts, GTR 2 thrusts you into a hyper realistic racing environment with breathtaking real-world effects. With a revolutionary Driving School Mode you’ll gain the experience to tackle the challenges of professional racing.

Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel

Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

I love racing games and have played for years using standard controllers. I decided to try a sterring wheel and determine if it would be worth the trouble.

I am still not sold. This wheel and pedal setup is fine and works well for the money. There is slack in the wheel between where is actually communicates your movement to the xbox and that is translated into your game, but you learn to deal with that issue.

The biggest reason for the 4-star rating is lack of games that are playable with a wheel. Unless you are into NASCAR or some other paved track type game, it is not as much fun as I hoped. I guess I was hoping for too much and got what everyone else has come to expect.

Either way, unless I am playing Burnout Paradise or Nascar (not much fun either) or Grid, this is not for me and I will stick with my controller

Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel Feature

  • Features vibration feedback technology
  • Double injected steering wheel with rubber coating is specially designed to provide optimal vibration feedback
  • 10 High-performance action buttons provide superior control
  • Retractable leg supports put you in the driver¿s seat and keep you there
  • Vertical vector design means when you throttle up, the pedals won¿t take off

Xbox 360 MC2 Racing Wheel Overview

The most realistic racing wheel available for the Xbox 360. Wrap your hands around the rubber-grip wheel, extend the retractable leg supports, drop your foot onto the pedal and hang on. Vibration feedback adds to the realism. With ten analog action buttons, you can take the MC2 to Talladega, Le Mans and a no-holds-barred desert rally, all in the same afternoon. Officially licensed for Xbox 360.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review

Available at Amazon Check Price Now!

Amost speechless but not quite. This game is AWESOME!! I’ve played Gran Turismo for years, all of the previous 4 games and this one is by far the greatest! The detail, right down to the stitching on the drivers gloves in POV-view and the shadows shift as you drive the track on a sunny day!! Are you kidding me?!? The cars are awesome – though I do miss some of my old favorites… The series you have to run to get cars unlocked are challenging enough and the tracks are all very realistic. The most real to life driving game ever! Except that the cars don’t get mashed when you hit something, I agree with the game designers when they want to sustain the beauty of the cars throughout the game. I can’t wait for the whole game GT5 to come out, of course we’ve been waiting for it for 2 years, so until then I will keep playing this and loving every minute! The Driving Force Wheel for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 is worth the investment at the least, there are even better driving wheels out there to complete the experience.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Feature

  • The award-winning Gran Turismo franchise returns with its 5th installment, exclusively for PS3. With its signature realism and physics, it continues to blur the line between simulation and reality.
  • Race more than 60 meticulously detailed cars from worldwide manufacturers, including Ferrari, BMW, and Nissan in stunning 1080p at 60 frames per second.
  • Each car features an all-new interior dash view with driver animations and gauges that track vehicle performance in real-time.
  • In addition to racing with up to 16 players online, it features Gran Turismo TV, a new dedicated online channel that delivers motorsport and automotive content from around the globe.
  • Get a jump on the competition. You can transfer your Gran Turismo 5 Prologue progress to Gran Turismo 5 when it releases.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Overview

The award-winning Gran Turismo franchise returns with its 5th installment, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, exclusively for PlayStation 3. With its signature realism and unrivaled physics, this highly anticipated precursor to Gran Turismo 5 continues to blur the line between simulation and reality.

“Prologue” is defined as an introductory or preceding event or development, and true to every letter, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue treats both long-time fans of the Gran Turismo franchise as well as those coming to it new, with a generous sampling of what they can expect to see in Gran Turismo 5 later in the year and further releases on the PS3.

Developed By the Best
Polyphony Digital is the developer of the Gran Turismo franchise, led by creator Kazunori Yamauchi. Polyphony Digital is known for pushing the limits of the PlayStation hardware, and with its realistic graphics and physics, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is no different. In addition to receiving CAD data from the auto manufacturers, they have taken thousands of photos to model each car (and track). As an example of the level of detail, a car in Gran Turismo 4 has the same number of polygons as a headlight in Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

Polyphony works even closer with the automotive industry to make sure that the cars look and drive just as they do in real life. In fact, Kazunori Yamauchi designed the on-board computer for the real Nissan GT-R. If you’re lucky to buy one when it releases, you will notice the Polyphony Digital logo when you start your car.

Take Your Cars and Tracks Online and Off
Gran Turismo 5: Prologue features over 60 stunning cars – including vehicles by Lotus, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Ferrari for you to race on seriously realistic, real-life tracks: including the Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka – all rendered in incredible High Definition graphics. There’s also all-new driving physics for the most lifelike driving experience ever and new, improved opponent artificial intelligence for the toughest race challenge yet.

But that’s not all – for the first time ever in the history of Gran Turismo, players will now be able to race online.
